What is graphite electrode
Graphite electrode mainly petroleum coke, needle coke as raw material, coal asphalt binder, calcination, ingredients, kneading, molding, baking and graphitization, machining and made, which is released in electric arc furnace in the form of arc conductor of electricity to heat melting furnace charge, according to its quality index, can be divided into ordinary power graphite electrode, high power graphite electrode and ultra high power graphite electrode.
Graphite electrode production of the main raw material for petroleum coke, ordinary power graphite electrode can add a small amount of asphalt coke, petroleum coke and asphalt coke sulfur content can not exceed 0.5%. Needle coke is also needed to produce high - or ultra-high - power graphite electrodes. The main raw material for aluminum anode production is petroleum coke, and control sulfur content is not more than 1.5% ~ 2%, petroleum coke and asphalt coke should meet the relevant national quality standards.
The advantages of graphite electrode are easy to process, high discharge processing removal rate, graphite loss is small, therefore, part of the group based spark machine customers give up copper electrode and switch to graphite electrode. In addition, some special shape electrodes can not be made of copper, but graphite is easier to shape, and copper electrode is heavy, not suitable for processing large electrodes, these factors cause part of the group based spark machine customers to use graphite electrode.
Graphite electrode is easier to process, and the processing speed is obviously faster than copper electrode. For example, graphite is processed by milling, which is two to three times faster than other metals and does not require additional manual processing, while copper electrodes require manual grinding. Similarly, if electrodes are made using high-speed graphite processing centers, they are faster and more efficient, without causing dust problems. In these processes, the selection of tools and graphite with suitable hardness can reduce the wear loss of the tool and the damage of the copper electrode. If the specific comparison of graphite electrode and copper electrode milling time, graphite electrode is 67% faster than copper electrode, in general discharge machining, graphite electrode processing is 58% faster than copper electrode. As a result, processing time is greatly reduced and manufacturing costs are also reduced.
Graphite electrodes are designed differently from conventional copper electrodes. Many die factories usually have different reservations for rough and finish machining of copper electrodes, while graphite electrodes use almost the same reservation, which reduces the number of CAD/CAM and machine machining, and this alone is enough to greatly improve the precision of the mold cavity.
